Finish 2022 Strong: Mind Body Connection

We are going to take you through a quick quiz AND tell you about a cool study that ties in with the quiz … and also how you feel!

Ready for the quiz? No worries, you can’t fail.

Think about your breakfast today. What are some words that you could use to describe it?

Some ideas:

  • Satisfying
  • Healthy
  • Not enough
  • Sugary

So … come up with your words … and now we are going to tell you about the study!

It gives an inside look into how our bodies and minds work together.

Scientists gave a group of people a shake to drink.

Half of the group was told the shake was LOW in calories and low in nutrients…

While the other half was told it was HIGH in calories and high in nutrients.

Even though everyone was given the EXACT same shake — with the EXACT same amount of calories and nutrients.

Now here’s where it gets interesting.

The group who thought they got the “low-calorie” shake was the first to get hungry.

Which really isn’t all that surprising.

BUT check this out: Their hormones responded as if they were hungry.

As for the group who ate the “high calorie” shake … they didn’t feel as hungry or have the same hormonal response.

Pretty crazy, right?

The Takeaway: how we think about what we eat – i.e., “healthy” or “diet” or “low cal” “small portion” or “large portion” — can actually play a role in our hunger levels.

Think back to how you described your breakfast … did it play a role in how you felt AFTER you ate it?

And here’s one more thing you can probably relate to …

Have you ever cut down on your portion size at lunch or dinner and, before you even ate, thought, “There’s no way this is going to keep me satisfied. I’m going to be hungry again in an hour?”

Now you know it’s time to think twice before you start saying those kinds of things to yourself….

Because how you talk to yourself and think about your goals can impact:

  • your motivation and drive
  • how hungry you are
  • how hard your workouts feel
  • and just about everything else!

Pretty eye-opening, right?

Your mindset can make or break your results … and it’s something we work very closely with our clients on!

So, today, take some time to notice what you’re thinking about your workouts … your meals … and other parts of your life.

Stop to ask yourself if you are making things easier or harder on yourself!

If you’re ready to take the next step in your fitness/health, we’re here to help you create a plan that works for YOUR life and your goals!
