What is Mindfulness and Why Does It Matter

We are going to explore something that plays a GIANT role in how you feel – and ultimately your results.

It’s something that doesn’t get a lot of attention but we believe this is a MAJOR FACTOR that separates people who reach and maintain their goals … and those who struggle.

It’s being MINDFUL and PRESENT … and we’re going to outline exactly what we mean by that in this article.

Being more mindful can:

  • Boost your results with your workouts,
  • Make it easier to make healthy nutritional choices,
  • Improve your day-to-day happiness, and even
  • Play a role in your long-term health.

That’s because when you are PRESENT and MINDFUL … you make DELIBERATE CHOICES … and puts you back in the driver’s seat for your own life.

When we’re not being mindful, we’re basically in “auto-pilot” mode and letting our habits run our life.

It’s the fastest way to stay “stuck” or even go backward.

Now being mindful is actually a pretty simple concept …

It’s really about paying attention; on purpose, in the moment and in a non-judgmental way.

but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy to do, though.

Here are a few examples:

If you’re in the middle of a workout and doing some push-ups, it’s tuning in to your body and the muscles that you’re working on. Which, in turn, can make those push-ups even more effective.

If you’re eating, it’s tasting your food and noting how it makes you feel. This can help you make more deliberate and informed nutrition choices that leave you feeling more energized and closer to your goals.

It’s NOT always letting your mind race ahead to all of the “what ifs” of tomorrow … or getting lost in thoughts about what happened yesterday or five years ago.

Give it a try for yourself and see.

Today as you go about your business – whether you’re:

  • working out,
  • driving,
  • going grocery shopping,
  • at work,
  • doing household tasks,
  • or whatever –

try to focus on BEING PRESENT.

Even for just 30 seconds.

When you notice that you are lost in your thoughts, try to RETURN to being present.

Don’t worry about being PERFECT … No one is 100% mindful and present all the time!

But bringing just a little bit of this to your day can really make a big difference.

Do you have a mindfulness practice?
